Breakfast with Bond
Odeon Kettering claims first public screening of Quantum of Solace

Odeon Kettering scored a coup with Quantum Of Solace that even M would be proud of. The cinema secured the world's first public screening of the new James Bond film, which began on Friday 31 October at Double-0 7am!

The cinema had to get special permission from distributor Sony and Kettering Council, which granted a one-off early morning licence extension. The cinema’s marketing manager, Simon Hopkins said: “We've always tried to celebrate the Bond releases at Kettering, particularly as the cinema was opened in 1997 with a regional premiere of Tomorrow Never Dies. As no midnight previews were allowed, I just thought ‘Double-O 7am’ sounded good!”

Fifty people attended the film’s first screening, with one winner also taking home a limited edition Quantum Of Solace cocktail set. “I’m very glad Bond wasn’t an 004 agent,” Hopkins added.

Quantum of Solace’s first week national takings were 20% higher than those of Casino Royale, Odeon said. At the flagship Odeon Leicester Square the new film broke Casino Royale’s £1.2m house record by £100,000.
