Cycling Tour

Building a Cycle network in a Modern City

Tom Southerby, Bristol City Council

Bristol tops the list of bike-friendly cities in the UK with levels almost doubling – up 94% – between 2001 and 2011. Bristol City Council will be hosting a short ride around the city showcasing recent infrastructure and cycle initiatives.

(Please bring your bike. Cycle hire is limited and on a first come first serve basis)

Walking Tour

How Can we Support Inclusive Walking in Day-to-Day Transport?

Jess Read, Bristol City Council

Bristol leads other core cities with an 18% modal share of walking to work, yet walking to work declines from age 21. The Health and Social Care Act 2012 places new public health duties with local authority transport departments. So what does inclusive walking infrastructure (meaning infrastructure where older adults, disabled people and children feel safe and comfortable) actually look like? A walk through central Bristol will take in appealing success stories such as College Green and the Harbourside, and then explore the challenging interface with new cycle infrastructure in high density urban settings. This will be an opportunity to debate and discuss together.

14.00

Registration opens in the foyer exhibition area

Speed Learning

Speed Learning provides a fast-moving discussion platform for knowledge-sharing and helps teams to network.  The 30-plus case studies will be presented simultaneously at ‘bar tables’ marked by numbered balloons, in 12 minute sessions (11 minutes for presentation and interactive discussion, and 1 minute for changing tables).

The case studies will consist of short presentations followed by discussion. A horn will be sounded when it is time to change to another table.
