Bringing Britain’s young bus managers together

The Young Bus Managers Network has been launched to help encourage and develop the next generation of talent in the industry.

There was a lost generation of managers in the bus industry following the break-up of the National Bus Company and  Scottish Bus Group and the demise of their management training programmes in the mid-1980s. However, two decades later a new generation of younger managers is emerging.

Young managers across the country have told Transit that they would like the opportunity to meet other young managers and share their experiences. This would offer them the kind of networking opportunity enjoyed by those who worked for the NBC.

“The Young Bus Managers Network has been set up to help give them the chance to get together with other young people who face the same challenges that they do,” explains Transit editor Robert Jack. “This is a chance to make new contacts and new friends within the industry.”

To join, applicants must under 35 years of age and working as a manager or a management trainee for a bus company. Transit is helping to facilitate the launch of the network but the aim is that it will be run by young managers for young managers.
