TUESDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2008,

NEW CONNAUGHT ROOMS, LONDON

Why you should attend:

This is one of a choice of TWO breakout sessions in the afternoon (you don’t have to decide now – and can mix and match on the day if you wish - but it will help us with seating requirements if you book your conference place via your preferred breakout session)

Rail ticketing is moving to the fore as the government and train operators seek solutions to the challenges facing the country’s rail network. With constraints on funding and capacity becoming ever more apparent, new ticketing technology and pricing strategies are being touted promoted as some of the key methods of increasing revenue and persuading people to travel at times when there are spare seats. The new pricing techniques have attracted some controversy, particularly over significant increases in headline fares at peak times. However, their advocates claim that associated improvements in ticketing and retail practices can improve passengers’ perceptions of value for money in the face of the higher fares being demanded by the government and improve sales.

This exciting conference will explore the benefits of new technology such as

· M-ticketing

· E-ticketing

· Print at home

· Smartcards

Can they deliver an experience to match customers’ expectations of 21st century retailing?

Can they attract greater patronage through offering seamless journey and greater choice over what to pay and when to travel?

In addition, the conference will examine how the industry’s rules are being changed to offer less confusing ticketing and more dynamic products, the extent to which passengers actually want to switch away from traditional tickets to using new technology and improvements in customer service and travel information that companies can offer passengers when they switch to on line sales.
